Nairobi

Take a trip to the capital; nairobi

This Savannah city is built around wildlife, the national pride of Kenya. This is probably the only city in the world with a gigantic national park in the middle of the city. Nairobi is a fine blend between an urban city and a return to nature. Explore Africa’s restless gazelles and calm zebras, the dominant lions and the curious giraffes, while never really leaving the city.

Dining in Nairobi: in Caves and with Giraffes

Nairobi is a modern African city, known for fine-dining options, attracting travelers with adventurous taste-buds. First on the list for most visitors is Nyama choma (roasted meat) is made from goat or beef meat, grilled over charcoal. It is eaten by hand with salt, chilli pepper, a sauce made from maize and onion. Visitors come for more than the food. It’s the experience with the food which makes Nairobi truly unique. For an only-in-Nairobi dining experience try out this one-of-a-kind floating restaurant at the Stedmak Gardens and Recreation Centre. Alternatively, you can enjoy the best of East African cuisine at Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant situated in a 100,000-year-old cave by the beach. Or dine with giraffes and other Savannah creatures at Giraffe Manor, a boutique hotel in Langata, Nairobi.

Let’s book your stay at this beautiful “giraffe hotel”, known for its decked-out interiors and morning raids by expectant giraffes poking their heads into the windows hoping for food from tourists like you. If you want to go the extra mile you might want to get a ‘giraffe kiss’. Tourists often place a meal loved by the giraffes on their lips and let the giraffe take it from your mouth with their tongue.

Tourists spend a lot of their time at the chilled-out Alchemist, offering food, drinks and an outdoor arthouse cinema. Or try out 100 different varieties of burgers at the popular Brew Bistro & Lounge.

More About Nairobi

Adopt an Elephant

Walking distance from the Giraffe Centre is the Elephant Orphanage. This animal conservation centre works with elephants who lost their parents to poachers. Here, elephants are nursed to grow and gradually returned to the wild. Even though it is just for a brief hour or two, you could feed and adopt an elephant for $50. This symbolic process helps preserve these creatures and supports the centre to keep running.

So, let’s help you navigate your Nairobi adventure. From Masai-wear shopping, camping with buffalos at the Nairobi Tented Camp to feeding giraffes and adopting elephants, there is much to do and enjoy alone or with family.
